Wilkes Education Foundation’s (WEF) 34th Annual Hugh Martin Memorial Golf Tournament, held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Oakwoods Country Club. It generated approximately $30,000 to be used to award mini-grants and scholarships to Wilkes County Schools’ teachers and students.

The Wilkes Education Foundation (WEF) board approved $106,500 in scholarships to be awarded for the 2024-2025 year. Scholarships include the Wilkes Education Foundation (WEF) Scholarships awarded to Wilkes County students and based upon their scholastic achievements, personal essays, community service efforts, and financial needs; G. Gerald Hendley Family Scholarships awarded to individuals in Wilkes County pursuing careers in the medical fields; Shrimanker Family Scholarship; and Della Arnold Scholarships awarded to students in Wilkes, Iredell, and Yadkin counties who are pursuing ministerial or teaching professions.

The Wilkes Education Foundation (WEF) has awarded 32 mini-grants for the 2023-24 academic year to Wilkes County school teachers. The grants of up to $2,000 each are designed to provide funds to implement creative and innovative instructional programs in the classrooms for which federal, state or local funds are not available. Teachers submit proposals that are reviewed anonymously and ranked based upon clarity of goals, creativity, benefit to and involvement of students, efficient use of foundation funds and adaptability of projects for use by other teachers.
